Summary: We started seeing sporadic responses from our AnyCast DNS servers last night. We contacted AfiliasDNS who operate that service for us. As of yet we haven’t had a reply or a resolution from them that gives us any insight as to what the problem is.
What impact is there on customers: Typically, none. But initial lookups of freshly created dns records may timeout or take a couple of seconds to response. Due to the nature of DNS if a name server is unavailable most DNS clients will try another one.
We’ll post further updates as we have them.
Update @ 15:15: The name servers have come back online. We’re awaiting an RFO from Afilias now.
